I day tripped down to Hiroshima on the Shinkansen. The trip was just under two hours, which makes Hiroshima an easy (but expensive) day trip from Kyoto.
While there are many things to see and do in Hiroshima the city is most famous for obvious reasons. On August 6, 1945 the people of Hiroshima were the recipients of the world’s first nuclear bomb, Little Boy. The bomb exploded 2000 feet above the city with a force of 13 kilotons, totally destroying all structures within one mile of the epicenter and instantly killing almost a hundred thousand people.
