Photos from a trip up to the source of the Waiakeakua Stream in the back of Manoa valley (7 bridges / Queen's Ponds hike). This water was considered sacred, but now is watershed for honolulu. A while back, the board of water supply bought the land to preserve as watershed, allowing the remaining farmers to stay until their death. When the farmers either die or give up, the houses are abandoned to be taken over by the forest. If you are interested in hawaiian mythology, there is a lot of cool
folklore about Waiakeakua.
